Directions FAQ’s

We have created a list of frequently asked questions to assist in your journey planning. Have any questions that we haven’t answered?

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Can I fly to the Island?

No. You can’t fly to the isle of Skye itself however , there are regular flights to several airports within easy reach of Skye. The nearest airport is Inverness which has flights from London and other major UK cities. Alternatively you can fly to Glasgow or Edinburgh and then take a train or bus the rest of the way.

Can I book a taxi?

Yes, there are many taxi services available in Skye.  Please see our Travel Blog which is full of useful information to help you plan your trip.

Is there a wi-fi signal at the house?

The Wifi signal is excellent.

Can I hire a car locally?

Yes, you can hire a car on the Isle of Skye.  There are a number of rental companies that offer car hire services on the island, including local and international providers. Many visitors find it helpful to have access to their own vehicle when exploring the Isle of Skye, as public transport is limited in this remote area. When booking your car rental, make sure you know what type of insurance cover is included.  Please our blog A Travel Guide to the Isle of Skye for more information.

Do you have plenty of local transport available?

The public transport on the island is very limited.  Some buses leave from Somerled Square in Portree (57) but the best way to see the island is by car.

How do I get there by ferry?

Caledonian MacBrayne, offer sailings from:
Tarbert-Uig, Isle of Skye
Lochmaddy-Uig, Isle of Skye
Raasay-Sconser, Isle of Skye
Mallaig-Armadale, Isle of Skye

Given how fast ferry spaces fill up in peak season, we highly recommend booking at the same time as your accommodation.

We never go anywhere twice but for here we may make an exception..

The Fischer Family

Absolutely outstanding cottage and location. As described by Maggie with lots of helpful information beforehand. The standard inside the cottage is exceptional and the views of the sea and sky so mesmerising we found it very difficult to leave. A very special place and well worth a visit.

Incredible views of Skye from this cosy and perfectly equipped cottage. We felt welcome from the first minute, spotlessly clean and this was our favourite spot in beautiful Scotland

We had the most amazing holiday with everything we could of possibly imagined. Elysium Skye is clean, comfortable, luxurious and situated in the most beautiful of surroundings. We loved having our breakfast outside watching the sunrise, whilst planning our adventure for that day. Arriving back to then soak in the most relaxing bath, (with a glass of fizz & a good book of course).
